Maths Mania Activities are
Easy to Use and Easy to Display
A hall, multipurpose room, or a double classroom is sufficient area to set up the work-stations. 18 colourful, exciting displays stimulate students to touch and interact with the activity and experience maths in a way that is difficult to simulate in the classroom. Maths Mania caters for 45 to 60 students a session for approximately 70 minutes.
Following an introductory talk, the activities are set up around the room and the excitement begins to build. The students are split into groups of 3 or 4 and move freely around the displays. Each student has a worksheet which is used to record their answers. Both the activities and worksheets are named and numbered.
During the session the presenter and teacher move around the room helping and guiding the students when needed. Teachers are given an answer sheet and follow up material that can be undertaken back in the classroom. Students are encouraged to solve a variety of problems - discover patterns, think logically and apply maths to the physical world. The nature of this program motivates the students so that with very little encouragement they engage themselves in the activities and relish the successes this interactive opportunity offers. Often their perception of maths starts to change as students realise that maths can be interesting, challenging and fun - all at the same time.
The life of an activity set is 12 months and as they are changed each year, schools can use Maths Mania as part of their curriculum knowing that their students will be exposed to new challenges each and every year!
